An English Year

Twelve Months in the Life of England’s Kids

Meet Aman, Victoria, Amelia, Tandi and George — English children representing a multicultural blend of culture and race that typifies our beautiful country. They will take you through a year in the life of English kids, from celebrations to traditions to events, to our everyday way of life and the little things that make childhood so memorable. They are our English childhood.

An English Year is a picture book bursting with national pride. It is a snapshot of who we are as a nation, blending our modern-day culture and lifestyle with past traditions and strong heritage. Its pages feature meandering text, dates and gorgeous illustrations showcasing our five English children at play, at school, at home, and enjoying the sights and sites of England — from the northern moors and breathtaking Lake District, to our pebbly seasides, bustling cities and historical country towns.

Tania McCartney is an award-winning author, editor, illustrator and founder of highly regarded children’s literature website Kids’ Book Review and the 52-Week Illustration Challenge. Her previous titles with Tina Snerling are Peas in a PodTottie and Dot, and the bestselling An Aussie Year.

Tina Snerling is an illustrator, graphic designer, creator and Mother. She is privileged to spend the most part of her days daydreaming out her sundrenched window, while creating worlds that allow her to travel anywhere without leaving her studio.

An English Year has introduced our daughter to unfamiliar experiences, foods and traditions and has stimulated lots of discussion about my own childhood memories"

The School Librarian, December 2015

"Much thought and imagination have gone into the creation of this fine annotated picturebook and it shows . . . the pages are well designed and while they are full of colour and life they do not look cluttered . . Great care has been taken to present things throughout the book that children will like, understand and recognise"
